• ACL Reconstruction

  • An ACL reconstruction is a surgery to rebuild the ligament in the center of your knee with a new ligament.

The ACL keeps your shin bone in place. A tear of this ligament can cause your knee to give way during physical activity. If a torn ACL is not treated it can lead to tissue damage and early arthritis.

An ACL reconstruction may be necessary for the following knee problems:

    • Knee that gives way or feels unstable during daily activities
    • Knee pain
    • Inability to continue playing sports or other activities
    • When other ligaments are also injured

ACL reconstruction surgery is usually very successful. Surgery for reconstructing a torn ACL have greatly improved over the years. In the past, a torn ACL would end an athlete's career but the latest techniques for reconstruction have included less pain and stifness, fewer complications with the surgery itself and a much faster recovery time.
