The Breast Center

Why Choose The Breast Center at Littleton Adventist Hospital?

Digital Mammography

We're pleased to offer the superior technology of digital mammography to our patients. Because digital mammograms have a faster image time there is approximately 25% less exposure to radiation than with a traditional mammogram. More views of breast tissue are possible and results are clearer. In our Breast Center results are read by both a board-certified breast radiologist and a computer-aided second read program.

Personalized Breast Cancer Care

We offer you the opportunity to meet your entire interdisciplinary cancer care team all on one day and be provided with a comprehensive, personalized care plan. All physicians providing diagnostic or treatment servies for breast cancer are board-certified in their specialty. Our team includes a genetic counselor and a breast cancer nurse navigator.

As a nationally accredited breast center program we can treat the full spectrum of breast disease in patients. We meet the highest standards in patient care, including the most advanced treatments available to achieve the best possible outcomes as evidenced by medical research.

Breast Cancer Nurse Navigator

We don't believe anyone should face breast cancer alone, or without access to exceptional care and resources. As a breast cancer survivor herself, Ellen, our breast cancer nurse navigator knows all too well what a trying time this can be. Ellen is an invaluable resource and advocate for our patients. Her goal is to help our patients find peace of mind by steering them through appointments, information and resources.

Award-Winning Care

Our patients inspire us to excel. In 2011 we were among the first Breast Centers in the Denver area to receive the prestigious National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) from the American College of Surgeons. In 2011 we were also recognized by the American College of Radiology with the Gold Seal of Accreditation in Breast Ultrasound.

Our mammography team was recently recognized once again for their commitment to patient satisfaction with the HealthStream® Excellence Through Insight Award, which honors ongoing patient satisfaction scores among the highest in the nation.

It's All About You

Whether it's offering evening and weekend mammography appointments to accommodate busy schedules, the listening ear of Ellen our nurse navigator, or the convenience and peace of mind of planning your personal care with an interdisciplinary team, the Breast Center at Littleton Adventist Hospital is all about you.

Advanced Results Without the Wait

Because breast cancer is one of the most common cancer diagnoses for women in the United States, it's important that women in the South Denver metro area have access to the screenings they need.

After undergoing a routine mammogram in May 2010, Sue Marcoux, 42, found a lump in her breast. Working within the mother of five's busy schedule, the staff at the Breast Center at Littleton Adventist Hospital performed additonal imaging as soon as possible so Marcoux would not have to wait for results.

Marcoux's first mammogram in 2008 at the Breast Center showed nothing abnormal. Fortunately, an ultrasound revealed that the lump found in the 2010 mammogram was enlarged tissue and not cancerous. Now, Marcoux undergoes mammography screenings every six months to promote early detection if cancer should develop.

"From a woman's perspective, the possibility of having cancer can cause immediate stress and worry," says Marcoux. "Littleton Hospital's ability to schedule my tests and deliver results in a timely manner allowed me to avoid unnecessary anxiety."

What does NAPBC Accreditation Mean To You?

Littleton Hospital was recently awarded NAPBC accreditation. This accreditation is the gold standard for breast care. NAPBC evaluates strengths across a wide spectrum of services, including prevention, early detection, diagnosis, pretreatment, staging, cancer treatment, and rehabilitation. This commitment from the Littleton Hospital team provides women in the South Denver metro area with comprehensive breast care, close to home.
