Occupational Therapy

The occupational therapy department provides a full range of assessment treatment and consultative services for pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric clients with injury, disease or disability. Staff members work in collaboration with administration, medical staff, allied health professionals and all other staff plus the patient and family to meet the needs of those served.

Occupational Therapy Services provided include, but may not be limited to, screening/evaluating activities of daily living, cognitive and perceptual deficits, work site analysis and orthopedic/neurological impairments. The purpose is to prevent or minimize residual physical and cognitive disabilities; to aid the patient in achieving his maximum potential within his capabilities; and to reduce the length of the functional recovery.

Personnel include occupational therapists (B.S. or M.S. from an accredited school and registered with the National Occupational Therapy Certification Board), and certified occupational therapy assistants (Associate Degree from an accredited program and Certification from the National Occupational Therapy Certification Board).

Physical Therapy

Physical Therapy is a patient care service provided in response to a wide range of rehabilitation care needs of inpatients and outpatients of all ages, regardless of race, color, creed, national origin, gender or disability, five days a week for outpatients, seven days a week for inpatients and seven days a week for wound care patients. Inpatients and Skilled Nursing Physical Therapy will be provided at bedside, Independence Square or in the physical therapy department as appropriate. Outpatients will be seen in the outpatient physical therapy department.

Outpatient physical medicine services will be available Monday-Friday 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Inpatient physical medicine services are available Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The purpose of physical therapy is to treat disease, injury and disability by evaluation, examination, and use of rehabilitative procedures, manipulation, massage, exercises, and physical agents including, but not limited to, mechanical devices, heat, cold, air, light, water, electricity, and sound in the aid of diagnosis or treatment; to obtain for the physician information needed in diagnosing, and evaluation of the patient. To prevent or minimize residual physical and mental disabilities; to aid the patient in achieving his maximum potential within his capabilities; and to accelerate convalescence and reduce the length of the functional recovery.

Personnel include physical therapists (B.S. or M.S. from an accredited school and licensed in the State of Colorado). Physical therapy assistants (Associate Degree and preferred licensure from adjoining states). Physical Therapy Technician (High School Graduate/GED).

Massage Therapy

We are pleased to offer therapeutic massage as part of our outpatient physical therapy services.  Research shows that massage can:

• Enhance healing
• Promote a relaxed state of mental alertness and well-being

Speech Therapy

• Cognitive assessment and retraining of affected areas such as memory, judgment, problem solving and concentration
• Verbal and written communication focused on specific skills
• Swallowing and oral therapy through therapeutic exercise, neuro-muscular re-education, diet modifications, electrical stimulation and various swallowing strategies
