St. Anthony Hospital receives American Heart Association Mission Lifeline Accreditation and Gold Performance Award
08/02/2012

One of 25 hospitals in the nation to earn ‘gold’ recognition

DENVER, Colo. (Aug. 2, 2012)St. Anthony Hospital has received the American Heart Association’s Heart Attack Receiving Center Accreditation and is one of 25 hospitals in the nation to receive the Mission: Lifeline Gold Performance Achievement Award.

The award recognizes St. Anthony Hospital’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients that effectively improves the survival and care of STEMI (ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction) patients. In 2011, St. Anthony Hospital received the Mission: Lifeline Silver Performance Achievement Award.

Every year, nearly 250,000 people experience a STEMI type of heart attack. Unfortunately, a significant number don't receive prompt reperfusion therapy, which is critical in restoring blood flow. Mission: Lifeline seeks to save lives by closing the gaps that separate STEMI patients from timely access to appropriate treatments.

Hospitals involved in Mission: Lifeline strive to improve care in both acute treatment measures and discharge measures. Systems of care are developed that close the gap of timely access to appropriate, life-saving treatments. Before they are discharged, appropriate patients are started on aggressive risk reduction therapies such as cholesterol-lowering drugs, aspirin, ACE inhibitors and beta-blockers in the hospital and receive smoking cessation counseling.

To earn the Mission: Lifeline Gold Performance Achievement Award, hospitals must demonstrate 24 consecutive months that at least 85 percent of eligible STEMI patients (without contraindications) are treated within specific time frames upon entering the hospital and discharged following the American Heart Association’s recommended treatment guidelines.

“This is an incredible milestone for our program, and we are excited to be one of two programs in the state to receive the Mission: Lifeline Gold Performance Achievement Award. It is a tribute to the many talented professionals who made this achievement possible,” said St. Anthony Hospital President and CEO Jeff Brickman, FACHE.

As part of the award, St. Anthony Hospital was recognized in the U.S. News & World Report ‘Best Hospitals’ July issue.

The ‘Best Hospitals’ issues also names St. Anthony Hospital as part of the Target Stroke Honor Role and recipient of the 2012 – American Heart Association/American Stroke Association Get With The Guidelines – Stroke Gold Plus Performance Achievement Award. The award recognizes St. Anthony Hospital's commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of stroke care by ensuring that stroke patients receive treatment according to nationally accepted standards and evidence-based guidelines.

In addition, St. Anthony Hospital is a recipient of the 2012 – American Heart Association/American Stroke Association Get With The Guidelines – Heart Failure Gold Performance Achievement Award. The award recognizes hospitals that adhere to the latest scientific guidelines to optimize care for heart failure patients.
